Porcelain and Roses

August 11 was my mother's birthday. Granted, she would have been 112 years old. I can just hear her now shouting, "I don't want to live that long!" Well, she didn't. But she did make 84 years of coping with a difficult husband and seven rowdy children. To honor her on this her 112th birthday, I pulled out one of the first pieces I wrote in my plunge into writing memoir. The story is as much about a sister relationship and a stunning casket as it is about my mom's funeral. But, as usual, Mom's presence was felt strongly throughout. I hope you enjoy reading
